The Smithtown Judo Club was founded in 1961 by Sensei John Brisbois teaching traditional Kodokan Judo. The
dojo is the oldest martial arts school in all of Long Island. During the 60's, 70's and 80's the club was a nationally
known club that produced 14 individual national champions and had several of his athletes invited out to the US Olympic Training
Center to try and vie for a spot on the US Olympic Judo Team.
In 1994, Sensei John Brisbois retired from teaching and turned the helm of the Adult/Competitor's program over
to his most tenured student, Jean- Pierre Lucas. Jean-Pierre Lucas started under Sensei Brisbois in
1963, at 5 years old, and has been there ever since.
Also at the helm with Sensei Lucas is Joe Prizzi(3rd Dan) who started in 1968.
